What is the role of Migrant Workers Office (MWO)?

Migrant Workers Office is a government agency mandated to provide assistance and protection to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and their families. Whether your employer is not treating you properly, a case has been filed against you by your company, or you just made a complaint, MWO has the authority to intervene in your case. They will help you by negotiating with your employer and protecting you from further abuse and harassment.

The MWO has two (2) sections:

  • Labor and Employment Facilitation Services Unit (LEFSU)

    Verifies all necessary paperwork for OFWs is in order, fulfilling both Philippine and Japanese employment rules and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) overseas employment guidelines.

What is DMW?

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is a government agency in the Philippines that is responsible for protecting the rights and promoting the well-being of Filipino workers who work abroad and their families.

What is DMW Accreditation?

Accreditation refers to the grant of authority by the Administration to a foreign principal/ employer to recruit and hire Filipino workers through a licensed recruitment agency for overseas employment.

What is MWO verification?

The Employment Contract of the workers needs to have a verification stamp by MWO. It is a requirement for the DMW stamping. According to DMW, employment documents of OFWs must be either verified by MWO or acknowledged by the Philippine embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over the area of the job site.

Do Foreign Companies/Employers need to undergo Accreditation?

Yes. The employer needs to be accredited by DMW in order to grant the authority by the Administration to recruit and hire Filipino workers through licensed recruitment agency for overseas employment.

Who should apply for Work Permits?

The Employer or the direct Employer/ Principal.

How long does it take to deploy a worker?

It takes 3 to 4 months, the duration hinges on the time required to handle the necessary paperwork for work permits, eligibility certificates, visa processing, and related matters.
